Aquatic Plants I Won’t Use Again

These are the aquatic plants I’ve personally decided never to use again.

  1. Utricularia graminifolia (UG)
  2. Eleocharis parvula (Mini Hairgrass)
  3. Micranthemum micranthemoides (Pearl Grass)
  4. Hygrophila pinnatifida

Based on my own experience, I’d rank these among the most notorious plants to manage. The main reason I’ve decided to avoid them in the future is simple—they grow far too quickly to keep up with. At first, when the tank looks empty, their rapid growth and spreading runners can feel satisfying. However, the real problem begins when maintenance is neglected even slightly. These plants grow and spread so aggressively that they can quickly take over the entire aquarium.

For hobbyists like me who prefer a more relaxed and low-maintenance approach, these plants are simply not a good fit. If I ever reset my tank again, I won’t be using any of them.

Mosses Are Also Off the List

I’ve also decided not to use mosses again. While moss may seem manageable, it actually grows quite fast. During trimming, small fragments tend to scatter and attach themselves to unintended areas, which requires constant attention to control. This makes it less suitable for those who prefer a low-maintenance setup. If I reset my aquarium in the future, mosses will be excluded as well.
